Shortcuts - "Fit Tea Rant"
If you have an end goal, you typically know the steps that you need to take. But what if I could tell you that you don't have to take all of them? What if I told you that I had a magic pill that could get you there in half the time? Well, I would be lying. The truth is that there is no shortcut when it comes to getting to your end goal. It goes for anything be it within a fitness situation or financially or even professionally.
Let's talk about weight loss. The simplest way to lose weight goes back to a simple proven science of calories in vs calories out. Burn more calories than you consume and you will slowly start to lose weight. That caloric defecit that you've been working towards will eventually all add up. But the thing is that people are often way too impatient to work towards these things. More times than not after the first month they'll stand on the scales and see that they've only lost 3 pounds and this isn't good enough for them so they quit. Quitting is not the answer. Persevering is.
On social media you'll often see celebrities shilling these "Fit Tea" Products. They promise X amount of weight loss in a week. This is incredibly unhealthy and can instil a false sense of The issue with selling a mild form of a laxative is that it can lead to issues down the line. Be it Yo-Yo dieting or unhealthy gastrointestinal issues.
If you google "How does Fit Tea work?" you'll find that it says it works with a mild laxative effect. Surely there are better ways to lose weight than having to shit through the eye of needle. Looking at the instructions that I found through google let's break it down.
- Drink Fit Tea Detox - 1 cup a day for best results.
- Stay hydrated with plenty of water.
- Exercise regularly 3-5 times per week.
- Eat healthy, balanced meals.
- Repeat
Ignoring the obvious first step to their guide to taking fit tea let's look at the other ones. Staying hydrated it a good step for any weight loss guide, it works like an appetite suppressant and stops you from snacking as much. When you get peckish between meals have a glass of water. Yes, you might end up pissing like a race-horse but your calories are going to be down for the day.
Exercising regularly. I write a fitness blog. Need I say more. Eating a healthy and balanced diet. Step 2, 3 and 4 - these are all the basic steps for weight loss. Why would you want to put money into the pockets of companies that sell you a covered laxative. Just allow the Kardashians to continue to sell their "Shit-Teas" It does make you wonder what a typical Kardashian house actually smells like with all of them apparently drinking this product.
This is a disclaimer on their website.
This has not been evaluated by the food and drug administration. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
We can argue about obesity being a disease - my argument is that it is a disease but it's also so much more than just that. I believe it's much more of a mental and psychological thing. When considering why someone is obese you must look at their circumstance. Their relationship with food. Upbringing etc.
One of the ingredients found in most of these Teas is Senna, if you've ever experienced the byproduct of Senna then you have all of my sympathy. There is an issue with the over use of senna, it can cause you to have gastrointestinal complications down the line and can cause reoccurring constipation. So maybe drinking this tea for any period of time longer than 2 weeks isn't the smartest.
The kind of people behind the marketing and the selling of the product are probably the kind of people who just relish in preying on the uneducated and the vulnerable. To me (a fitness professional) this is disgusting. I would rather have companies educate people on how to correctly lose weight and that's what I'm hoping to do here.
Sorry for some of the language used on this post, this is a subject that gets me riled up. Until someone invents a magic pill, I will forever hate these products. So someone get on the phone to Harry Potter and let me know.
Have fun with what you do, be mindful, understand it's going to be hard work but the work will be more than worth it.
