Why I quit Caffeine?

For the longest time, I have been very reliant on energy drinks. I know my addiction wasn't as bad as others but I was consistently drinking a can of Rockstar first thing in the morning and then possibly picking up a smaller can later on in the day (probably because of boredom) but I made a decision to quit caffeine.

But Why?

I'll be honest, I started to feel like absolute shit when I hadn't had any form of caffeine. The whole thing of walking to the shop after I had woken up became a habit for me. I know that leaving the house first thing in the morning is fine but, going to get yourself (essentially) a can of sugar isn't.

I have had occasional struggles with gastro-intestinal issues that have caused me to have certain anxieties when it comes to leaving the house for long periods of time, caffeine makes the colon more active (60% more so than water) so naturally consuming heaps of caffeine with the addition of a mild case of IBS spells out a recipe for disaster.

There are other reasons why I had to stop consuming caffeine as much as I did, I quite frankly couldn't afford it. I don't mind saying that I don't have the most money in the world - buying a can of Energy Drink a day soon adds up to £30 a month that I don't really have.

How?

I just stopped, that's all it took, I'm only 3 days removed from caffeine and I feel so much better for it already. I only had a minor reliance on caffeine but it was to the point that without it I had a headache and could get very grumpy.

The real tests came today where I decided to get up at half 6 and go to the gym for 7am - normally on my way to the gym I would grab a small 30p can of energy drink from the local paper-shop. Instead I woke up, got myself a glass of water, took some Creatine and got ready to go.

If you want to quit caffeine and you only have a minor reliance on it then just stop, If you have a heavy reliance on it then maybe wean yourself off of it. Reduce your intake by a little bit each day until you're all clear. Keep some paracetamol on hand and stay hydrated.  You will be fine, it will be tough but it's much better on the other side.

When you fill your body with rubbish you will feel like rubbish.
